How to install Truecrypt on Linux Mint 14 Nadia

Truecrypt is a powerful encryption software for Windows and Linux which lets us to create a secure and encrypted file or container. On this tutorial I am going to show you how to install Truecrypt on Linux Mint 14. Truecrypt developer provides a binary file setup that is easy to install on most Linux system including Linux Mint 14 Nadia.

Step 1. Download Truecrypt

Go to this website and download Truecrypt package from there. Select the Linux package (32 bit or 64 bit) depends on your currently running system. You should now have a file called similar to this one: truecrypt-7.1a-linux-x86.tar.gz

Step 2. Extract the file.

Right click the file and select Extract here to start extracting. Or you may use this command

tar xzvf truecrypt-7.1a-linux-x86.tar.gz

It will create a new installable file called truecrypt-7.1a-setup-x86

Step 3. Install Truecrypt

Still on Terminal, execute this command to install

sudo ./truecrypt-7.1a-setup-x86

truecrypt-mint-1

Select 1 to install, accept the license agreement and follow the instruction shown on your screen. Once finished, you can start using Truecrypt to create encrypted files or folder under Linux Mint 14.

For all the "just install it" help that didn't work, these solution did!

PS I downloaded the 64 bit from CNET since the Truecrypt.org didn't seem to have it for x86 machine.
